SAFEWAY & UNITED AIRLINES MILEAGE PLUS® PROGRAM

The Program.  Since 1998, the Safeway & United Airlines Mileage Plus Program (“Program”) has been offered exclusively for Safeway Club Card members (“Members”). Generally, the Program runs from January 1st through December 31st of the applicable year (“Program Year”) and may need to be renewed annually by all participating Members during a renewal period in the applicable Program Year, as announced by Safeway.

The Program Terms.  The terms and conditions below reflect the current Program terms, which may be modified from time to time with or without notification (“Program Terms”).  Therefore, you are advised to periodically review the Program Terms to keep current with the Program. The date of the last change to the Program Terms is listed below.  Your participating in the Program indicates that you have read, understood and agree to be bound with the Program Terms and any modifications that may be made in the future.  

Program Eligibility.  You are eligible to earn 125 miles on your United Airlines Mileage Plus miles account that you designate when you first sign up for the Program (or thereafter, as indicated on the renewal application) (“Account”) every time you use your Safeway Club Card and spend $250 in eligible purchases at participating Safeway stores, subject to the Program Terms.

Eligible Purchases.  Every time a Safeway Club Card is used in eligible purchases at a participating Safeway store during the applicable Program Year, the Account will accumulate dollars toward earning Mileage Plus miles. All dollar amounts are rounded down.  A set of one or more club cards with the same address and either (i) the same telephone number or (i) the same last name will constitute one household. Additional household restrictions apply (see the section entitled “Limitations” below).

 

For every $250 spent on eligible purchases, the Account will earn 125 Mileage Plus miles, subject to the Program Terms. Accumulated dollar amounts for eligible purchases will print on Member's receipt tape.  When the accumulated total amount reaches $250, the award message will indicate that 125 Mileage Plus miles are eligible to be posted on the Account.  For each household, dollars from eligible purchases will be accrued from the date of Member’s submitting the Program application, provided that the application is fully completed, accurate, and submitted in accordance with the Program Terms.

 

In no event will eligible purchases made before the Program application date be counted toward earning Mileage Plus miles. All earned Mileage Plus miles will be transferred to United Airlines by Safeway on a regular basis. All miles awarded will be reported to Members by United Airlines. Please allow 4-6 weeks for miles to be posted to the Account by United Airlines. Store register receipt tapes may not fully reflect a Member’s accumulated eligible miles if a member of the household shops in multiple participating Safeway stores. If a Member’s eligible purchases do not reach $250, no miles will be earned, awarded or posted. All inquiries about Mileage Plus accounts and related balances should be directed to the Mileage Plus Service Center at 1-800-421-4655 or the United Airlines Mileage Plus Web site at www.united.com.

 

Restricted Purchases.  For the purposes of the Program, restricted or excluded items and purchases such as alcoholic beverages, cigarettes or other tobacco products, postage stamps, milk and dairy products, transit passes, fishing/game licenses, entertainment/sporting tickets, lottery tickets, gift certificates, gift cards, pharmacy co-pays and prescriptions, phone cards, money orders, container deposits, and fuel purchases, Safeway Savings, Safeway Coupons, and sales tax will not be counted toward eligible purchases.

Participation.  

A)        If you are a Safeway Club Card member and a Mileage Plus member, sign up or renew at a participating Safeway store.  Complete a Safeway Club Card application form. To be eligible, you must submit a fully completed and accurate Club Card application, even if you are already a Safeway Club Card holder.  You will need to enter your existing Safeway Club Card number under “Changes to Existing Card Account,” check the box “Add Mileage Plus Account Number,” and complete Section 1 of the application.  You will need your Mileage Plus account number to enter on the application for enrollment in the Program. Or you can enroll or renew online at www.grocerymiles.com for which you will need both your Safeway Club Card number and your Mileage Plus number.  If you do not remember your Safeway Club Card number, please contact our customer care call center at 1-877-723-3929.

B)        If you are a Safeway Club Card member, but not currently a Mileage Plus member, obtain an Mileage Plus account number at the United Airlines Mileage Plus Web site (www.united.com) or call 1-800-421-4655.Then complete the Safeway Club Card application at your local Safeway store.  You will need to enter your existing Safeway Club Card number under “Changes to Existing Card Account,” check the box “Add Mileage Plus Account Number,” and complete Section 1 of the application. You will need your Mileage Plus account number to enter on the application for enrollment in the Program. Or enroll online at www.grocerymiles.com for which you will need both your Safeway Club number and your Mileage Plus number.

C)        If you are not a Safeway Club Card member, but are a Mileage Plus member, complete a Safeway Club Card application, and enter your Mileage Plus Account Number in the space provided under Section 1 of the application.  Submit your completed Safeway Club Card application to the participating Safeway store.

D)        If you are neither a Safeway Club Card member nor a Mileage Plus member, you will need to first enroll in the Mileage Plus program at the United Airlines Mileage PlusWeb site (www.united.com).  Then complete a Safeway Club Card application and enter your new Mileage Plus account number in the space provided under Section 1 of the application. Submit your completed Safeway Club Card application to the participating Safeway store.  

Limitations.  Mileage Plus miles are accumulated on a per household basis (maximum of 12 people to a household). As a result, all Mileage Plus miles earned through the Program will be credited to a single Mileage Plus account number designated by the Member who has originally signed up for the Program or renewed thereafter, even if the members of the household maintain a different Mileage Plus account number.  If you are a member of a household whose Mileage Plus mile account number is not the one designated by the Member for the purposes of the Program, you need to submit a separate Safeway Club Card application with your Mileage Plus mile account number and contact our customer care call center at 1-877-723-3929.

All Mileage Plus miles earned and awards issued, and the use of either, are in accordance with the terms and conditions of the United Airlines Mileage Plus program.  Safeway and/or its affiliates and subsidiaries are not responsible or liable for any airline travel, or for lost, late, damaged, delayed, destroyed, misdirected, incomplete, illegible or postage due applications or mail, or Safeway Club Cards scanned incorrectly, or scanner/computer failures or malfunctions of any kind, or human or technical errors or failures in the accumulation of dollars or miles, or in the transmission or receipt of applications.

Safeway reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel the Program, in whole or in part, and/or to alter or change the terms of the Program, in whole or in part, at any time with or without notice to Members.  Safeway also reserves the right to verify the eligibility of purchases and the household status of purchasers. Safeway and United Airlines each reserve the right to terminate or suspend accumulations or membership due to fraud, misuse or any other reason contrary to the Program Terms.

Any unspecified expenses and taxes related to acceptance/use of Mileage Plus miles under the Program are solely the Member's responsibility.

The Program cannot be used or exchanged for and cannot be combined with any other program, promotion or offer.  No cash value.
