The Weatherford Wind Energy Center calls for 71 wind turbines on a 3,800-acre site just west of the city of Weatherford.
The facility is Oklahoma's third major wind farm, and its largest.
Turbines:
The facility is owned and operated by FPL Energy. PSO purchases all of the output from the facility under a long-term contract and provides the power to its customers throughout its service territory.
The Weatherford facility features 71 turbines, each with a capacity of 1.5 MW.
The expansion will add 27 turbines located on 1,400 acres southet of the original project site. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2005.
Output:
This facility will be capable of generating enough electricity to power more than 44,000 homes.
All the power will be sold to American Electric Power-Public Service Company of Oklahoma under a 20-year contract. AEP PSO is the state's second-largest electric utility, serving 505,000 customers, including 285,000 in the Tulsa area.
