  • 1 roll refrigerated pizza dough or 1 sheet
    frozen puff pastry, defrosted
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon, ground
  • 1 egg, beaten (optional)

Cream Cheese Icing:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 4 ounces butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted

  1. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon and melted butter. Set aside.
  2. In food processor combine cream cheese and butter. Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Mix until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  3. Remove pizza dough from container and place onto a cutting board. Spread about 1/3 cup of brown sugar cinnamon mixture onto the right side of the dough. Fold dough like a book over the filling. Turn the filled dough one quarter turn to the right.
  4. Cut dough into approximately eight 1" strips.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment or nonstick foil. Pick up filled dough strip by the ends and twist two to three times. Place cinnamon twists onto lined baking sheet. If desired, brush each twist with a beaten egg. Bake in a preheated 425°F oven for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and drizzle or spread on cream cheese icing. Warm and gooey buttery breadsticks loaded with cinnamon sugar and topped with a creamy icing. Best if eaten warm.
